Last week, the Board of Education in Houston voted to establish a minimum school day length of 7 hours and 15 minutes for all elementary schools. A special thank you to TSC Signatory and Houston ISD Superintendent Terry Grier for his continued leadership on expanding learning time!
Leaders in Houston talked about the importance of providing all students with the chance to have recess, and encouraged their elementary school leaders to ensure that all their students had daily recess. Even just 20 minutes of recess is proven to help students focus in class and perform at higher levels – that’s why this work is so important.
Houston joins countless other major cities, from Chicago to Boston, that are making expanded time a priority for all of their students.
