Are you an educator or administrator working in an expanded-time school?

Even if you aren’t, this TED talk is worth watching for daily inspiration, to make you reflect on your education and think about teachers who have made a meaningful impact on your life.

“Teaching and learning should bring joy. How powerful would our world be if we had kids who were not afraid to take risks, not afraid to think, and who had a champion? Every child deserves a champion; an adult who will never give up on them, who understands the power of connection, and insists that they become the best of what they could possibly be.” –Rita Pierson

All children should have the chance to succeed with great role models and educators in their classrooms. When schools redesign and expand their schedules, they are not only adding time for academics and enrichment opportunities for students, they are also adding more time for students to be with caring adults. The impact of that time, particularly in communities of concentrated poverty, cannot be overstated. When children know that they have adults who care about them, who care about their well-being, and who can be a resource in the toughest of times, then we have really gotten to the heart of ‘better learning time.’
