Longer school days are coming soon to Lyndhurst, Ohio. As a response to their 2013 strategic plan, the South Euclid-Lyndhurst K-12 Schools District decided last May to add 20-30 minutes onto the student school day and an additional 15-20 minutes to the teacher workday starting in the 2014-2015 school year.
What will it look like for students? Each day will now be 7 hours long for students. Coursework will be more rigorous, focusing on increasing instructional minutes for math, reading, writing, and social studies. Students will also have additional enrichment options and more intervention support for struggling students.
What will it be like for staff? Teachers will have more time with their students to make sure they understand the material and personalize instruction as well as additional time to collaborate with their peers and plan lessons.
School administrators have not released the detailed redesigned school schedules yet; they expect to do so following meetings with parents in the coming weeks.
