Here is the recap of this week’s expanded learning time (ELT) news:
This week the Utica School District received an extension on the expanded learning grant from New York State. If an extension is approved, it would be effective for the 2015-2016 academic calendars and Utica now has time to plan to implement the longer days more effectively.
The Courant reported that three Hartford Schools were awarded $460,000 in grants. Two schools, McDonough and SAND Elementary School, intend to expand their school days/years with their grant money.
Education Week finishes their blog series on year-round schooling with a final questions- should schools be adding more time to their school days or more total days in the classroom?
