The New Jersey State Department of Education says that the state is still pursuing the idea of expanding learning time. The state is looking for alternative sources of money to help schools pursue innovative school days.
World Magazineposed the question, “Will more time in school make better students?” They looked at the pros and cons and the growing momentum of ELT.
Sixth-grade students at the Le Mars Community Middle School in Iowa will have a longer day than the rest of the school in order to transition better to middle school. “We look at this time as giving the students team building skills, a chance to get to know one another and set academic and social goals,” Principal Steve Shanks said.
