Here is the recap of this week’s expanded learning time (ELT) news:
This week U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan visited expanded-time schools in Lawrence, MA, to highlight the successes of school improvement strategies as well as youth achievement programs around the state.
The U.S. Department of Education issued new draft guidance for the School Improvement Grant (SIG) program this week. The draft proposal includes three new models for SIG schools, and in the “state-based Secretary-approved model”, more increased learning time would be a requirement. More on that here.
Bishop Elementary School in Englewood, CO has added 30 minutes more class time each day this year to expand learning time with Generation Schools Network as a partner. The Englewood School District is hoping this is a first step to implementing expanded learning time district-wide.
