Here is the recap of this week’s expanded learning time (ELT) news:
UP Academies raise the bar for urban schools. One way they are seeing success is in their changed educational approach. Not only do kids spend an extra hour and a half a day in school, but the school year is also five days longer than the 180-day calendar in most of Boston Public Schools.
PBS Newshour did another segment on expanded learning time. After one year of the additional hour of literacy, one school had 58% more students reading at or above grade level while nearly 75% of schools across the state who expanded time for literacy saw an increase in the students reading at grade-level.
