In State College, Pennsylvania the State College Area School Board unanimously voted to explore expanding the elementary school day. This vote followed a survey of 3,500 parents where a majority of the 1,200 respondents supported the idea.
The Connecticut State Department of Education awarded grants to open more expanded learning time schools and after school programs at low-performing high-poverty schools. Seven schools will expand their school day, week, or year to add 300 more hours of instruction.
New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio announced plans to expand the school day by one hour in 94 underperforming public schools.
