Recently two Charleston County, South Carolina schools received a state grant that will fund expanded school days. This additional time will help them each focus specifically on STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and math) activities. A nonprofit from the community, Charleston Promise Neighborhood, plans to also add generous funds to make this additional time a success. Sherrie Snipes-Williams, the Executive Director of Charleston Promise Neighborhood, which is leading this initiative in Charleston, believes in the impact of expanded learning time:
